Managing your DNS

In this article, you’ll find a step-by-step guide on how to manage your DNS settings.
Follow the instructions and you’ll be able to do it yourself easily.

What is DNS?

DNS is a system that turns your domain name into the IP address of the server where your website is hosted.
You can think of it as the internet’s phone book: you type in a name, DNS looks up the right number and sends you to the correct website.

Managing and editing your DNS

Every domain has a DNS table with settings (DNS records) that you can edit yourself.
These records determine where your website and email point to.
Follow the steps below to manage your DNS.

How to edit your DNS records

  1. Go to My Account.

  2. Click on the domain name whose DNS records you want to edit.

  3. You will now see a page with the current DNS settings. Here you can add or change records.

Our default DNS settings:

Type Name Value
CNAME _dmarc dmarc-reject.mymundo.com.
AAAA * ::1
A * 127.0.0.1
AAAA (empty) ::1
TXT (empty) "v=spf1 a mx include:spf.mymundohosting.com -all"
A (empty) 127.0.0.1

What do these types mean?

A record
Links your domain name to an IP address (IPv4).
Think of it as the house number of your website.

AAAA record
Does the same as an A record, but for IPv6 addresses (the newer and longer type of IP address).

CNAME record
Points one domain to another domain instead of an IP address.
Useful when multiple domains should lead to the same website.

TXT record
Contains text information about your domain.
Often used for security, such as SPF (anti-spam) or verification for services like Google or Microsoft.
